I bet that you guessed chicken or beef… Well SURPRISE!!! Sixty three percent of the world’s population eats goat meat!
Interestingly, the choice for goat meat is longer fuelled by ethnics alone. The health-conscious consumer is also looking at the benefits of incorporating either Cabrito or Chevon into their eating plans. But what are these options?
Cabrito is a delicacy meat from goats that are harvested between 1 to 3 months of age. At a time when the kid weighs less than 50 pounds. Chevon is meat harvested from goats between 6 – 9 months, weighing between 50 and 70 pounds.
Older goat meat is also consumed – but usually as by products such as sausage.
Goat meat is said to be lower in calories, total fat, and cholesterol, in comparison to other meats. With such benefits, it is clear why consumers are developing an interest in eating goat meat.
